Our Trainers

JAKE

Since 2017

EDUCATION Jake holds a BSc in Human Kinetics from Lake Superior State University.

COACHING EXPERIENCE Jake grew up in Sault Ste. Marie — the same hometown that produced Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey. He brings 15+ years of skating and coaching experience to the treadmill, working with athletes across all ages and skill levels. Now in his 9th year at the Skating Lab, Jake is one of our most senior trainers and a key member of our Pro Shop team, having trained directly alongside Jeff for nearly a decade.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY Jake customizes every session based on what he sees in real time. He'll push high-level athletes to their limit while keeping the environment engaging and fun. He has an especially sharp eye for skate fit issues — lacing, blade profiles, alignment — making him as valuable off the ice as he is on the treadmill.

Fun Fact: Jake attended the same high school as Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey. No pressure.

EMMA

Since 2019

EDUCATION Emma is currently completing her Master's in Professional Kinesiology at the University of Toronto.

COACHING EXPERIENCE Emma grew up in Toronto, participating in both figure skating and hockey, giving her a deep understanding of the practical applications of the training she delivers. She began her coaching career teaching Learn to Skate programs, making her exceptionally effective with newer skaters of all ages and young skaters across all levels.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY Emma's passion for skating fundamentals shows in everything she does on the treadmill. By building a strong foundation first, athletes can properly advance their skill set over time — a principle that aligns perfectly with the ProStride methodology.

Fun Fact Emma competed in both figure skating and hockey growing up — one of the few coaches who truly speaks both languages on the ice.
